History of the Club
The Toronto Rebels were started in 1990 as the Scarborough Rebels and it only took 3 seasons for the club to win its first Premiership in 1992 after being runner-up the previous season.
In 1993 the now Lawrence Park Rebels won their second and now back to back Premiership against the undefeated Toronto Panthers.
Over the next 7 seasons the Rebels came close to winning another 3 times; but they had to be happy with 2nd place in 1994, 1997 and 1998.
Another change in location brought another name change to the Lakeshore Rebels in 2001. The team won its 3rd premiership that year and managed to do it without registering a loss.
The next chance for success came in 2005 when the Rebels stormed through the finals from 5th spot only to be outdone in tight game against the highly favoured Dingo’s.
2006 brought with it many retirements of the clubs greats and also our final name change to simply the Toronto Rebels. This brought about some lean years in the clubs history but with many new and talented Canadian recruits the clubs fortunes look set to change for the good in 2009 and beyond.
Off the field the Rebels have always been one of the tightest knit social groups. The team conducts several annual events that are attended by players, family, supporters, sponsors and past players. The Rebels are entering their 20th season of football in 2009 which has seen over 150 players don the Rebels uniform.
A great history, a great club and a great game.
