History of the Club
Created by former Central Blues player Luke Anderson, the Montréal based Québec Saints were founded in early 2008. They competed in the OAFL’s ‘Rec’ Footy league in that year along with the Central Blues and Broadview Hawks. In 2009 the Saints entered into a partnership with the Ottawa Swans to act as their reserves team, the Saints joining the OAFL’s new Division 1 league. Coached by former VFL U/19 Richmond footballer Anthony Williams, the Saints are working hard to establish Aussie Rules in the French-Canadian province.
The team’s jumper resembles the Québec flag, with the Australian flag icon of the Southern Cross in the lower left corner. The nickname of the team, the ‘Saints’, was selected to reflect Montréal’s countless churches and street names named after Saints. The word ‘Saint’ is the same in English and in French. The Saints currently use Ottawa’s ground the Rideau Carelton Raceway as their home base for OAFL games.
